The story so far

The money behind the frame — cold, condescending, reasonable-sounding menace. He didn’t need to hate Eli. Erasing him was simply cheaper than paying him, and Sallow has never once chosen the more expensive thing.

He runs an exchange the way a lock runs a door: everything passes through him, and he takes a little off everything that does.
