The story so far

She was going to marry Eli. She buried him instead — stood at a service for a man the footage swore was a criminal, and felt, under the grief, that the story had a seam in it that didn’t hold.

She married Julian, who was kind and certain and, above all, there. She is the one person alive who might feel the wrongness of the thing now wearing Eli’s intentions. The revenge keeps bending toward her. It keeps, deliberately, refusing to touch her — the last human thing about him, or the tell that he was built to protect her.
